Political Science Major Requirements

Eligibility: To be eligible for graduation, students must meet all requirements for the degree being sought in addition to earning a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all courses required in the Political Science major or minor.  Those seeking Wisconsin teacher certification must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.00 in all courses required for their majors and minors in order to meet requirements of the College of Education and Human Services.

Required Credits: 36

Required Courses: Political Science 101, 105, 115, 245 and 401

(Political Science 101, 105, 115 are the introductory courses; 245 is the methods course and 401 is the senior capstone course)

The remaining 21 credits are to include one course each from the 4 different sub-fields in groups 1 – 4 (groups 5 & 6 will count as electives towards the major) – (see checklist for course numbers and names).

  • Group 2 Political Theory Courses
  • Group 3 Comparative Government Courses
  • Group 4 International Relations and Organizations Courses

Political Science Minor Requirements

Required Credits: 24

Required Courses: Political Science 101, 105 and 115

Required Experience: A 3-credit internship; or 3-credit service learning experience; or a 3-credit study abroad experience (any one would have to be approved by the Civic Engagement Minor Coordinator)

Required Experience: A 3-credit internship; or 3-credit service learning experience; or a 3-credit study abroad experience (any one would have to be approved by the Civic Engagement Minor Coordinator)
